We always visit for free first and then agree on one fixed price in writing, including preparation, the number of coats and the paint brand. Any extra work is discussed beforehand.

That depends on the condition of the wood, the number of window frames and whether there is wood rot. A facade that is still in good shape needs one round of sanding and two coats of finish. If the sills have rot, repair work is added on top; that is often more work than the painting itself.

That's why we don't quote a price per square metre over the phone, but come and look first. That inspection is free and non-binding.

The difference is in the preparation. A frame that has only gone matte needs sanding and two coats of finish. A frame with blistering, bare patches or a soft sill needs to be stripped, primed and sometimes repaired first.

Usually as soon as the paint turns matte, starts flaking, or the sealant along the glass opens up. Dark patches on the wood and open seams are also a sign that moisture can get in.

Waiting costs money: as long as the paint film is intact it protects the wood, but once moisture gets in, wood rot repair gets added to the job. If in doubt, we'll take a free look.

Exterior painting on a terraced house typically takes a few working days. For interior painting it depends on the number of rooms. Drying time between coats often determines the timeline more than the painting itself.

Spring and summer are busier than winter. We can usually start within a few weeks; for urgent cases, such as a leak or advancing wood rot, we make room where we can. The start date and number of working days are set out in the quote.

Exterior painting is possible as long as it's dry and not too cold. Below around five degrees Celsius, paint no longer adheres or dries properly, and in fog or right after rain there's still moisture in the wood.

Interior painting and wallpapering can be done year-round.

Press a screwdriver against the underside of a window frame or sill. If it feels soft or gives way, there's rot. Other signs are blistering paint, dark patches and open seams.

Painting over it without repairing it traps the moisture in and speeds up the damage. Wood rot repair can also be requested separately from painting, for example if only a couple of sills need replacing. You can send a photo via WhatsApp for a first assessment.

One room is no problem at all. We paint a single bedroom just as readily as a whole home that needs to be finished before a move.

The stairwell and landing are also frequently requested — hard to do yourself, since a regular ladder won't reach.

Lining paper as a durable base, non-woven wallpaper, vinyl wallpaper and pattern wallpaper. We remove the old wallpaper, level the surface and apply a primer coat, so the seams stay closed instead of opening up after a month.
